Horta da Moura, one of the most iconic hotels at the gates of the medieval village, has just opened Sítio da Moura, a restaurant that promises to reinforce the Alentejo’s culinary identity with a contemporary approach that remains true to its roots.
At the helm of the kitchen is Chef Maria Antónia Batista Martins, who has crafted a menu rooted in memory, local ingredients, and seasonality. The menu offers a modern take on traditional flavors, preserving the Alentejo spirit in every dish.
Among the appetizers, highlights include dishes such as pork trotters with coriander (€12.50), mushrooms sautéed in olive oil and garlic (€12.50), or scrambled cod eggs (€15), which pave the way for the region’s classic soups, ranging from Alentejo-style tomato soup (€9) to the comforting cod açorda (€12).
The fish menu features dishes that pay homage to well-known recipes, such as dogfish with coriander and fried bread (€18), cod on bread (€19), or the more daring golden cod with crispy ham (€20).
The meat dishes maintain a traditional flavor with options such as pork cheeks with green asparagus migas (€19), pork tenderloin with potato chips and mashed potatoes (€20), or a medallion of Mertolenga veal with mashed Swiss chard (€25).
For those who prefer vegetarian options, there are tofu skewers with mushrooms, pineapple, and onion (€15) or apple stuffed with seitan carbonara (€15).
And because an Alentejo meal isn’t truly complete without dessert, Sítio da Moura offers options such as the Alentejo trilogy, a tasting of three sweets (€6.50), rice pudding with cinnamon cookies (€5.50), or chocolate mousse with DOP olive oil and fleur de sel (€5.50).
If you’d like to enjoy a meal with your four-legged companion, the restaurant welcomes them too. And if you thought the little ones were left out, think again: there’s the “gaiato” menu (€15) for children up to 12 years old, which includes soup, a main course, and dessert.
