Autumn brings a new way to discover the Alentejo. Amidst the tranquility of the landscapes, the richness of the traditions, and a cultural program that invites you to step out, Monsaraz and Reguengos de Monsaraz become ideal destinations for a getaway this season.
During October and November, the Outono CulturArte 2026 program brings together proposals for cinema, theater, music, and other artistic expressions, creating new reasons to visit this Alentejo region and learn about its cultural heritage.
A cultural program to experience the Alentejo
Over the coming weeks, the municipality's cultural agenda invites you to discover different forms of artistic expression in an environment where tradition and contemporaneity meet.
Portuguese Cinema | October 17th
The António Marcelino Auditorium, in Reguengos de Monsaraz, will host the screening of the film Damas, at 9:00 PM. An opportunity to include national cinema in a visit to the region and get to know another one of the cultural initiatives of the autumn program.
Theater | October 24th
Theater takes center stage at the Alberto Janes Municipal Auditorium, with the presentation of Vista Céu ou a Glorificação da Imbecilidade, by the Colectivo Cultura Alentejo, at 9:00 PM. A proposal for those who enjoy exploring different perspectives through the performing arts.
Fado | October 31st
Portuguese music will be in the spotlight in a tribute show to the Fado singer Maria Valejo, a native of the municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz. The performance, scheduled for 9:00 PM, will feature several guest Fado singers and a choral group, celebrating the voice and tradition of one of Portugal's most emblematic musical genres. Admission is free, subject to prior ticket collection.
November 14th and 15th: bread as part of the Alentejo identity
One of the highlights of the cultural agenda is the XXVII Encontros de Monsaraz, dedicated to the theme "Bread in the Alentejo".
The initiative, which takes place on November 14th and 15th at the Church of Santiago in Monsaraz, proposes a reflection on the importance of bread in history, nutrition, and Alentejo cultural identity. The program includes debates, the participation of experts, and a bread-making workshop.
More than an essential food, bread represents a tradition deeply linked to rural life, knowledge passed down between generations, and the hospitality that characterizes this region. It is also an opportunity to better understand the Alentejo culture through one of its most genuine symbols.
Monsaraz in autumn: an invitation to slow down
In addition to the cultural program, this is an excellent time to walk through the streets of Monsaraz, discover the interior of the walled village, and enjoy the views over the Alentejo landscape and the Great Lake Alqueva.
The quieter pace of the season invites you to explore the historical heritage, regional gastronomy, and the small towns that preserve the authenticity of the territory. Between a cultural visit and an outdoor stroll, there is time to enjoy the Alentejo without rushing.
A getaway with time to discover
To enjoy these initiatives with peace of mind, it is worth turning a trip to Monsaraz into a longer stay.
At Horta da Moura by WOT Signature, you will find a refuge to rest and enjoy the Alentejo surroundings, with time to explore the region, learn about its traditions, and return to comfort after a day dedicated to culture.
Whether to attend a show, participate in an initiative dedicated to traditional knowledge, or simply rediscover Monsaraz in a more serene season, autumn offers excellent reasons to visit the Alentejo.
